Modern Heirloom: Where Vintage Soul Meets Contemporary Charm

In the heart of historic West Ann Arbor, a story unfolds—a kitchen reborn with reverence for the past and a bold embrace of the present. This design is a dance between reclaimed vintage elegance and fresh, forward-thinking style. Classic elements, lovingly preserved and reimagined, are elevated to meet today’s modern sensibilities.

Cabinetry in a rich denim blue anchors the space with depth, while brushed gold hardware adds a touch of glamor. The palette of brass tones, layered throughout, evokes the feeling of a space collected over time—each finish a chapter in the home’s evolving narrative. At its heart, a stunning Lacanche range in robin’s egg blue stands proudly, a functional jewel with its own brass detailing—a true showpiece and nod to timeless French craftsmanship.

The island, carved from natural stone, is more than just a surface—it’s a gathering place. A custom inlaid breadboard invites warmth, welcoming everything from casual breakfasts to abundant charcuterie spreads made for entertaining. Just behind the sink, hand-crafted Motawi tiles subtly symbolize the three beloved members of the family, a personal and artistic tribute tucked into the design’s fabric.

Dramatic changes to the layout were carefully guided by collaboration with the historical preservation committee, ensuring that while the form evolved, the soul of the home remained intact. The final design—a spirited take on a modern French bistro—feels both lived-in and luxe, storied and fresh.

This kitchen isn’t just a renovation. It’s a resurrection. A beautiful blend of history and modernity, lovingly crafted for the life lived within.
